A Pain In The Toe
By Caitlin Fanz
My team and I are entered in the Gloucester City Tournament,
which is coming up. We were all very pumped and excited about the whole
thing. At practices we were a little bit goofy, but still working hard and
concentrating on doing and playing our best. Then one day I was over my friend’s
house, (a fellow team member) and we were outside. My friend's sister has a motor
scooter and I was standing near it when the kickstand was up. All of the
sudden it toppled over and the edge of the handlebars fell on my toe. I called
my mom and she picked me up from my friend's house and took my to the doctors.
I had X-rays done and they found I had broken and fractured my toe. The first
thought that came to my mind was OH MY GOD I can't play in the softball
tournament. I was devastated. I cried. The pain of my toe wasn't as much as the
pain of knowing I couldn't do something I love. It was and still is hard for
me.
Now,
every practice my team has I go to, and when their games start I am going to go
to every one of those too. I am still very upset and disappointed about not
being able to play, but I will still support my team. My dad has given me
some suggestions of what I can do, he was just kidding but he even went as far
as just wanting me to play first. But that was a no go. The doctor says I have
to stay off my toe for a few more weeks. My dad was disappointed (ha ha) but he gave me another suggestion,
to keep the book for my team. That is what I will do and I am looking forward
to that even though I would rather play on the field. I am now on the injured reserve list thanks
to my dad. I will do anything to just be out there with my team cheering
them on.
