Rules
and Procedures Advisory Committee
Memo:
2004-05
May
2004
Due
to numerous complaints regarding the malicious nature of some of the chants
employed by our teams, the UGSL League President, Alex Massa
has banned any and all chanting, at every level of UGSL play. Effective immediately, the ban will remain
effect until the Rules and Procedures Committee issues a formal recommendation
on the subject. To be clear, cheering
for your teammates is always allowed and encouraged. Violations of this policy should be reported
immediately to the League Commissioner.
Please
inform your teams.
Chanting is defined as two or more
girls sync'ed to the same song, melody, poem, rhythm,
word or words, incantation, canticle, prayer, hymn, slogan, melody, psalm,
ditty, seachanty, carol, or any other blood curdling,
spine seeking, nails on a blackboard, monotonous rhythmic trill, call, shout or
warble.
Cheering is defined as a show of
approval, support, encouragement, or congratulation characterized by, but not
limited to applause, clapping, rooting, ovations, plaudits,
acclamations, up to and including the odd yelling, screaming, and
shouting. Cheering is always positive
and never directed at the opposing team in a harassing or abusive manner (see
Chanting defined) or done in effort to cause awkwardness or embarrassment,
negatively affect performance, imply direct or physical harm, or create a
negative or hostile environment.
If you have
an opinion on this subject, please do let the RAPAC know it. The author
has his own opinion, as you probably concluded, but it's OUR league and we want
input from
