A TOURNAMENT STORY
By Caitlin Fanz
Picture this setting; a beautiful day
for a softball tournament, warm and sunny.
My team was excited and in high spirits. The tournament took place on a
nice field in Magnolia. Let's say my
team was playing against a team called the Phillies. We were the Yankees.
Both of the teams were equally good, but the Phillies had something going for them: a few songs that offended and taunted the Yankees' pitcher. Now the Yankees weren't for all those kinds of songs, we just wanted to play a good, fair game of softball. But as soon as the Phillies started singing those songs, we knew that was not going to happen. I mean what kind of team would sing songs which contained lyrics that were directed to the pitcher about things such as that pitch was too high or too low? There were also lyrics about walking the next batter. Again, what kind of team would send the pitcher walking off the field in tears because of those taunting songs? And keep it up once another pitcher for the Yankees was on the mound? I don't know what kind of team would do something like that, but I know that my team would never sing or say those kinds of things because we know how it feels to be in that position.
